Can i bring a un-used herb grinder on a plane?

im going to colorado and im want to buy a herb grinder and bring it back to my home in illinois. i want to know if i should check bags or if i can safely bring it on the plane in a carry-on bag without getting stopped in security. im underage if that is any help. 17 to be exact.
